Digital Printing

Digital Printing

In this method, a digital image is printed directly onto the medium. Using inkjet or laser printers gives graphics a sharp translation from the original file source. Additionally, digital printing offers a lower price per page than offset printing because there's no need for the creation of custom plates. Since the original source is digital, the image can be altered on the fly for any changes, corrections, or spontaneous inspiration. This also allows for on-demand printing and quicker turnaround time for shorter runs.

Offset Printing

The latest evolution of lithography, the timeless method of printing mass quantities. The term "offset" comes from the fact that the image is transferred from a separate surface onto the medium. The printing plate is metal coated with a rubber blanket applied with ink. Colors are applied in layers, using oil foundations to repel ink in certain places. While this process may seem more time consuming, it's actually the fastest way to print large runs consistently and accurately. Where digital needs to recreate the image from scratch with every print, offset printing is a basically a big rubber stamper that, once created, can churn out print after print extremely quickly.

Screen Printing

Screen Printing

Also known as silk screening and serigraphy, this technique involves using woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil. The stencil has open areas to allow ink to transfer through the covering in specific places. A roller then travels across the surface of the stencil, forcing ink through the portions of unblocked mesh. Each pass creates another layer of color to the image for a consistent look across all forms of media. One of the major advantages of screen printing is the ability to scale the image up or down for moving a brand or logo, or changing the medium.
